Fishery Information

Birchmere Lake, located in south east London, is an 11-acre lake that falls under the jurisdiction of the Thamesmead Town Angling club. The lake offers good accessibility with well-maintained pathways, making it suitable for disabled anglers.

In 2015, the lake underwent a restocking effort, facilitated by a collaboration between the club and the Environmental Agency. Approximately 250 carp ranging from 2 to 20 pounds were introduced into the lake, along with tench, bream, rudd, and roach. Additionally, Birchmere Lake is known to be home to some sizable pike, with reports of fish weighing over 20 pounds being caught.

Unfortunately, Birchmere Lake has experienced instances of poaching in the past. To address this issue, the fish in the lake have been chipped, which helps deter illegal activities and monitor the fish population.

While the lake is managed by the Thamesmead Town Angling club, it is possible to fish on a day ticket. However, only club members are allowed to engage in night fishing activities at Birchmere Lake.
