Fishery Information

Harwood Hall, locally known as Parklands, is situated within the Parklands open space, which was originally part of the Gaynes Manor estate. The history of the manor dates back to the 11th century, and the bridge within the area holds a Grade II listing. Gaynes Park, spanning over 400 acres, underwent significant land sales in 1928. However, Parklands was retained as a reminder of the expansive manor, which has roots tracing back to the Domesday Book.

Since 1964, Becmain Angling Society has been responsible for managing Harwood Hall. This stream-fed fishery encompasses both banks of the lake and falls under the supervision of Becmain AS. Following a desilting operation in 1966, the lake was restocked with a diverse range of fish species, including Carp, Roach, Tench, Rudd, and Bream.

Harwood Hall offers a habitat for various fish, including Carp and Pike. Interestingly, a substantial 23lb Pike was not caught using rod and line but instead became entangled while attempting to take fish from a keep net. Anglers have also had success in landing Bream weighing up to 3lb. Other species found in the lake include Eels, Roach, Gudgeon, Chubb, Crucian Carp, Rudd, and occasional sightings of sun-basking Terrapins.

Fishing at Harwood Hall is permitted from dawn to dusk, and day tickets can be obtained from the bailiff available on the bankside.
