Osterley, located in Hounslow, just a short tube ride from central London, offers a delightful escape from the bustling city. As you stroll up the tree-lined drive, passing by grazing Charolais cattle, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the countryside.

Surrounded by gardens, parkland, and farmland, Osterley is a rare country estate within the urban landscape of London. It was designed by renowned architect and designer Robert Adam in the late 18th century for the Child family, who used it to entertain and impress their guests and clients. Today, the house is presented in its original 18th-century splendor, allowing visitors to experience the opulence of the time.

Take a leisurely walk through the vibrant formal gardens, which have been lovingly restored over a six-year project. From once-overgrown wilderness, they have been transformed into their 18th-century glory, complete with herbaceous borders, roses, and ornamental vegetable beds. Don’t miss the original Robert Adam summer house, where lemon trees and fragrant shrubs thrive.

When it’s time for a bite to eat, head to the stables Cafe, where you can enjoy a delicious meal. If the weather is favorable, consider getting your food to take away and enjoy a picnic by Middle Lake, while keeping an eye out for the resident wildlife.

After a relaxing rest on the temple lawn in one of the deckchairs, embark on a woodland walk and uncover the hidden boathouse. As you meander through the ancient meadow, you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant display of wildflowers and butterflies, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature.

Osterley offers a perfect blend of history, nature, and tranquility, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or a peaceful retreat from the city.
