Spring Lake
s the name suggests this lake is fed by freshwater springs rising from the Tas Valley, a very beautiful and picturesque lake being surrounded by mature trees and shrubs with weeping willows dipping into the water and clumps of different coloured water lilies.
There is a large head of Mirror, Common,Ghost and Grass Carp to over 20lbs. A variety of methods will produce. Boilies to far lily margin and half way out into the open water will often produce plenty of fish. The fish will also feed well off the surface.
This is by far the easiest of the 4 carp lakes and is ideal for those new to carp fishing or those looking for instant success, it is stocked heavily with singles and doubles with fish to just over 20lbs to keep you entertained.
POLE POSITION & CHERRIES
These two swims can be fished as a double or two single swims, Pole Position has the right hand end margin and the productive set of pads in the far corner. Cherries has some very nice far margin spots and weeping willows on the far and near margin. Average depth between 3 and 4 foot.
TERRIERS (double swim)
A large comfortable swim that can be fished as a double, the best spots again are often tight to the lillies on the far bank, fish can also be caught close in from under the near margin willow trees. Average depth between 3 and 4 foot.
MONETS
A single swim and again the usual productive areas are tight to the far margin and the lillies on the far bank. Average depth between 3 and 4 foot.
BUNGALOW
Another single swim with some nice far margin spots and lillies and weeping willows on the far and near margins. Average depth between 3 and 4 foot.
THE BIG BAY (double swim)
Probably the most popular swim on the lake, a large double swim with plenty of water and areas to try. Tight to the far margins under the overhanging trees and the reed bed on the right side of the far bank produce plenty of fish. There is also a nice sandy hump off the far margin to the left of the aerator that always has fish patrolling over. Average depth between 3 and 5 foot.
Grove Lake
he Grove is a recent addition to the Taswood portfolio, it used to be a trout lake which featured on one of John Wilson’s fishing programmes, but has since been re-sculptured and restocked with stacks of fast growing very hungry British carp ranging from 10lb to just over 30lb. The average size of the fish are around mid to upper doubles with plenty of 20s and fish to just over 30lb.
Secluded sheltered water with comfortable large swims which we would class as an medium difficulty water.
It’s around 4 Acres in size with all fishing on one side with lily pads, reeds and bays to cast to. The fish can like loads of bait, all methods work well and they also like to take floating baits.
We also offer the opportunity to rent the whole lake on an exclusive use basis for groups of 2 up to 8 anglers, get in touch to book.
GATE SWIM
The first swim as you come through the gate, the usual spots that produce are tight to either the far or end margin. Fish also like to hang around close in on your right-hand margin. Average depth between 4 and 5 foot.
THE BEACH
Again, the far margins produce plenty of fish especially from the reeds off the point, fish also get caught closer in tight to the pads in the left-hand margin. Average depth between 4 and 5 foot.
LILLIES
A very popular swim which commands the widest part of the lake, the best area is often close to the lillies that are situated in the entrance of the back bay. During the winter when the lillies die off fish like to group up tight in this secluded back bay. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
ROYAL BOX
Another popular swim that has plenty of options, you have a couple of sets of pads and some very good far margin spots. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
STEPS 1 & STEPS 2
Two very similar swims, they both have access to big sets of pads which are the main feature of these swims. Steps 2 also has a large reed bed in the left-hand margin that always holds fish. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
THE CHANNEL
Situated on the thinnest part of the lake, often a neglected swim but can produce plenty of fish. The best spots are either tight to the far margin and in the near left margin off the pads or near right hand margin reed bed. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
THE BENCH
The first swim as the lake starts to widen again, the far margin is again a good place to start as well as the set of pads in the right-hand margin. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
HORNETS
This can be a very good swim with plenty of nice-looking spots to try tight to the far margin bushes and lillies. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
THE SOCIAL (double swim)
A very popular swim which is ideal for 2 people with plenty of space for 2 bivvys and plenty of water and options to fish too. Plenty of nice-looking spots on the far margins with weeping willow trees and lillies to fish to. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
DEAD END
Often a neglected swim right down the far end, a quiet and stealthly approach is best as fish can come in very close, as well as some nice-looking spots on the far margin. Average depth between 5 and 6 foot.
Heron Lake
One of the four specialist Carp lakes a beautiful mature tree and shrub lined lake with lots of lily beds to fish to. Flat spacious swims, plenty of room for bivvys.
Each swim is individual with out of bounds areas on opposite banks to avoid any over casting etc. The lake has a silty/clay bottom, about 7 Acres in size and runs from around 3 foot deep to around 6 foot deep in areas.
This would be classed as a medium difficulty Carp water with a large head of carp including mirrors, commons, Ghosties and Grassies to over 30lb. The current lake record is 38 lb 12 oz.
Broadwing Lake
The specialist Taswood Carp water mainly fished by Taswood members, day tickets are available, but must be prebooked (max 3 day tickets at a time on the lake unless by special arrangement).
A beautiful, picturesque water with overhanging willows. The lake is much deeper than Heron with depths from 5 to 15 feet and is about 4 Acres in size. The bottom is mainly silt and clay with no weed.
With single swims only with various features to cast to in every swim. The far banks, lily pads and overhanging trees are the most popular areas to fish to. The swims have been amended with all fishing on the far bank. The basin swim has been removed and the shallows also moved to the far bank. This reduced the number of swims but has allowed for greater water for each swim.
The larger specimens reside in Broadwing and is stocked with mainly 20’s and 30’s. We have recently stocked the lake with some fast growing British carp which will hopefully become the monsters of the future!
We would classify this lake as a medium to hard water, so is only really suited to experienced anglers as it can be tricky, but where the rewards can be magnificent!
The fish are fairly wise in this lake so a more subtle approach tends to pay dividends.
There are several big ghosties, commons & mirrors nearing the 40lb mark.
Grebe – Specimen Coarse Lake
This lake has been recently extended and heavily stocked as a 20 swim coarse lake with all the species one would expect to find. Carp, bream, tench, roach rudd, perch with the odd barbel showing.

Another beautiful secluded lake surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. This lake is popular with pleasure anglers as it offers something different. Golden tench, green tench, chub barbel, crucians and grass carp. There are no silver fish or ordinary carp and no matches are allowed on the lake.

This lake is for the purist coarse angler who wants to use light sporting tackle without needing to scale up to avoid being smashed up by large Carp., There are purpose built comfortable swims with deep water close in. This lake was recently used by Bob Nudd to film a DVD on ‘An Introduction to Waggler fishing’ and during filming he caught a stunning variety of fish including large tench.
