We invited Scott Lloyd down to Church Lake for a few days to spend proper time on the bank and dig into the mind of one of the UK’s top big carp anglers.
With mixed weather, a lake that hadn’t been fished for a while, and plenty to work out, Scott talks through his mindset, from reading signs and understanding fish movement, to knowing when to sit tight and when to move.
This isn’t about turning up with a plan already written, if anything, Scott often deliberately doesn’t seek out information, preferring to earn it on his terms.
It’s about building the picture. Watching shows. Making mistakes. Learning why carp do what they do, and using that information to earn opportunities, even when they’re not immediate, all this information comes together.
From longer campaigns to making the most of shorter sessions, Scott breaks down his approach to watercraft, angling pressure and weather changes, and why every special capture usually starts with one small piece of information.
Sometimes it comes together. Sometimes it doesn’t.
That’s carp fishing.
