In Sandiacre, you’ll find houses and factories along the canal, but it’s still a great spot for fishing with Roach, Bream, Chub, and Perch available all year. As you head towards Pasture Lock, the scenery becomes more rural and peaceful. Below the lock is a popular area called ‘Sandy Bottoms’ known for Skimmers. The canal continues on to Stanton Gate, passing under the Motorway and Railway before reaching Stanton Lock. There are various access points along the canal, including Sandiacre Bridge, Stanton Gate Bridge, and Station Road in Ilkeston. You can buy day tickets for fishing, but night fishing is not allowed. The canal is open all year round with no closed season.
