The Earl of Harrington AC owns about 1 mile of fishing space on the River Derwent near Derby. You can access the river from Haslam’s Lane, which is marked with a sign for “Derwent Valley Fishery.” There is a parking lot at the site that Warrington anglers members can use. They are also allowed to fish on the two lakes nearby. This stretch of the river is good for winter fishing for grayling, and you can also find chub, barbel, carp, tench, and other fish here. Using maggots or casters as bait with ledgering or float fishing techniques works well. There are about 25 designated fishing spots in this area, which is sometimes used for fishing competitions. There is a canoe club downstream, so be mindful of other river users.
