Nursery Lake in Yateley, Surrey is a twenty acre lake that is known for its pike fishing. The lake has been stocked with pike weighing over twenty pounds, offering a great fishing experience for both experienced anglers and beginners. There are also carp weighing over thirty pounds and tench in double figures that can be caught with a dedicated approach.
Junior members can fish at River Valley with a senior member present. The lake holds high quality carp, including Mirror Carp up to 40lb and Common Carp up to mid 30’s. There are also Perch weighing up to 4lb 8oz and some very large Tench up to 12lb. Large Pike up to mid twenties have also been stocked, providing good sport for anglers.
The River Blackwater contains Chub, Roach, Gudgeon, Dace, and some Pike up to mid 20’s. It can be fished from the wooden fence near the entrance to the site through to the end of the main lake.
Nursery Lake is a challenging venue with deep water and abundant weed. It is a great Winter venue for Pike fishing, with plenty of little Rudd for live baiting. It is recommended to fish well out to connect with big Pike, as the margins are dominated by Jacks.
Following the wind is important for locating the small head of Carp, as they can be elusive. Using typical bottom tactics will help catch them once located. Specialist tactics are needed for other species, especially the Rudd which the venue was once famous for.
