Heritage Lake

Heritage Lake is a serene location in Cambridgeshire’s Cottenham Fen, acquired by CFPAS in 1998.

Covering 5 acres with a 3-acre lake from a former gravel pit, it hosts successful breeding of Roach, Rudd, Carp, and some naturally occurring Tench.

It aims to be a family-friendly fishery with diverse catches, including a 37-pound match catch and a 22-pound Carp.

About Heritage Lake

Heritage Lake in Cambridgeshire is a peaceful spot located in the Cottenham Fen. It was bought by CFPAS in 1998 and covers about 5 acres, with a lake that used to be a gravel pit and is around 3 acres in size. The lake is shallow in some areas, ranging from just a few inches to 5 feet deep.

We have seen a good amount of natural breeding happening in the lake, with Roach, Rudd, and Carp successfully reproducing. We added some Common Carp and Bream to the Carp population. The Bream didn’t do as well initially, but they may start showing up more in the future.

We also discovered some small Tench in the lake, which we didn’t add ourselves, so we think they might do well there. Heritage Lake is important to us because it’s a popular spot for families. Our goal is to make it a fishery where everyone can catch something, including the occasional big fish. The main fish species in the lake are Rudd, Roach, Carp, Bream, and Tench. The best match catch was 37 pounds, and the biggest Carp caught so far was 22 pounds. Using sweetcorn is a good way to catch the larger Rudd.
