About High Newton Reservoir
High Newton Reservoir in Cumbria is a great place to catch rainbow trout. The reservoir is 11 acres and has a beautiful view of the Coniston Fells, the Cartmel Valley, and Morecambe Bay. It can get windy in the early season, but once it warms up, there are lots of insects for the fish to eat, so they are always rising to the surface.
You can fish here all year round, and the trout are stocked regularly. The fish are usually around 2lbs, but there are some bigger ones too. You can catch two fish per day, and if you want to release them, you have to use barbless or de-barbed hooks.
You can buy a day permit for £18 from Newby Bridge Motors, which is two miles away. The reservoir is open from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Wheelchair access is available if you arrange it in advance. It’s a great place to fish and enjoy the beautiful views.
