Kentmere Fishery is a beautiful place with two lakes located in the Kentmere Valley, near Staveley in Cumbria. The smaller lake, East Bay, has wild and stocked brown trout that weigh around 2lbs, with some bigger fish up to 5lbs. The larger lake, which is 10 acres, has wild brown trout that average about three quarters of a pound, but there are some much larger fish too.
The ground around the lakes is uneven and boggy, with deep water close to the banks. East Bay has platforms and walkways for fishing, while the main lake is best fished from a club boat. Fishing is not allowed in the river at the ends of the main lake.
Kentmere is for anglers who like more natural fishing and a challenge. You can catch two fish, but it’s encouraged to release fish to maintain the population. Using sight bobs or other floatation devices is not allowed.
The area is full of wildlife like deer, foxes, and birds, but also lots of biting insects like midges and clegs. Insect repellent is recommended!
Kentmere is open from March 15th to September 30th, from dawn until dusk.
