About Tydal Water
Grasmere is a small lake in Cumbria, located just before the village of Grasmere on the A591 road. It is a great spot for fishing, especially for roach, perch, and pike. Some really big pike, over 30 pounds, have been caught here, and it’s common to catch 20 pound fish every year. The lake is good for fishing all year round, with summer being a great time for lure fishing from a boat, and winter being better for deadbaiting.
There are also other fish in the lake, like roach and perch, which can grow to impressive sizes. It’s easy to access the lake from the roadside or the far shore, but the rest of the shoreline is private. Boats can be rented from the boat landings in Grasmere village, but it’s important to book ahead.
One issue with Grasmere is the limited parking, which helps protect the fishery from being overused. There are only two laybys on the main road, each fitting three cars. If those are full, you’ll have to park in Grasmere village or at White Moss near Rydal Water, both of which are expensive and a long walk with fishing gear.
