About Hampstead Heath
I have been fortunate to live near Hampstead Heath in London for most of my adult life. I walk there almost every day and know my favorite part very well. The Heath is so big that I haven’t explored all of it.
The ponds are a highlight of Hampstead Heath. They were originally created as water reservoirs for London in the 17th and 18th centuries. There are over 30 ponds on the Heath, but the six main ones are in two valleys. Three ponds are for swimming, one for men, one for women, and one for everyone.
In the picture, we see the mixed swimming pond on a beautiful summer day with people swimming at the far end.
