About Martham Pits

Martham & District Angling Club has been managing the fishing rights at Martham Pits since 1984. They have made a lot of improvements to the fishery over the years. Originally known for Tench, they now focus on Carp, with some weighing over 20lb in the B pit. Smaller Carp can be found in all the pits, especially the C pit which is popular for match anglers.

The A pit is great for Roach and Rudd fishing, with some weighing over 2lb. Bream can be found in all the pits, usually around 3 to 4lb, but there are some bigger ones up to 8lb. Perch, including a reported 4lb one, are mostly in the B pit. While there are fewer Tench now, you can still catch them, with some weighing up to 8lb.

The club has limited membership due to the small size of the pits. It started with 10 members and now has almost 200. The membership is currently closed because there is a waiting list.

The club organizes Match leagues throughout the year, with leagues on Sundays in the summer and winter, as well as weekly and evening leagues. They also hold charity matches to raise money for local charities and a Christmas Fare match in December.

The club also has access to fishing on the River Thurne at OBY for regular club matches in the summer and autumn. This stretch of the river is only for club members, and day tickets are not available.

Members can use the club’s boats at Rollesby Sailing Club to explore the Trinity Broads. If you want to use the boats, you need to contact the Boats Coordinator.

The club has monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month for members to get together. They also have committee meetings to discuss club matters.
